Training Up A Child In The Way He Should Go Matters A Lot (Part I)

Text: Proverbs 22:6

Proverbs 22:6 (Amplified Bible)

Train up a child in the way he should go [and in keeping with his individual gift or bent], and when he is old he will not depart from it.

Proverbs 22:6 (New International Version)

Start children off on the way they should go,
and even when they are old they will not turn from it.

Proverbs 22:6 (The Message)

Point your kids in the right direction—
when they're old they won't be lost.

Proverbs 22:6 (Contemporary English Version)

Teach your children
   right from wrong,
   and when they are grown
   they will still do right.

Proverbs 22:6 (New Living Translation)

Direct your children onto the right path,
and when they are older, they will not leave it.

In this world full of different influences...influences of your children's peers, influences of the media, influence of music, influence of different people that your children meet, training up a child in the way he/she should go really matters.

Parents Have A Great Responsibility In Training Up Their Children In The  Ways Of God.

Deuteronomy 11:18-21 say (NIV), "Fix these words of mine in your hearts and minds; tie them as symbols on your hands and bind them on your foreheads. Teach them to your children, talking about them when you sit at home and when you walk along the road, when you lie down and when you get up.Write them on the doorframes of your houses and on your gates, so that your days and the days of your children may be many in the land the LORD swore to give your ancestors, as many as the days that the heavens are above the earth."

Ephesians 6:4 (NIV) says, "Fathers,do not exasperate your children; instead, bring them up in the training and instruction of the Lord." I like how the New Living Translation translates it,  "Fathers, do not provoke your children to anger by the way you treat them. Rather, bring them up with the discipline and instruction that comes from the Lord."

Joseph and Mary acknowledged their responsibility as parents to Jesus when he was growing up.  Luke 2:39-42 say, "When Joseph and Mary had done everything required by the Law of the Lord, they returned to Galilee to their own town of Nazareth. And the child grew and became strong; he was filled with wisdom, and the grace of God was on him. Every year Jesus’ parents went to Jerusalem for the Festival of the Passover. When he was twelve years old, they went up to the festival, according to the custom."

I will be talking more about this topic in a few days. But as i "park" today, allow me to remind you that your children are God's gift to you. Love them and train them up in the way they should go and that way should be God's ways.
